Print mounted on 1/8" pasteboard, 22" high x 28" wide; wood frame 25" x 31" with glass. Some fading and yellowing. Enhanced image on file. Print from a painting of the vessel on the high seas by Fred J. Hoertz whose signature on the painting is reproduced in the image. The print was intended for display use by travel agencies and was not always framed. While undated, the color scheme of the ship with a black hull provides some help in establishing the range of dates for when it may have been used. The black hull and other colors were first used from 1938, its entry into ocean liner service, through 1940. From late 1940-1947 it was in war service (under Cunard) and repainted for such in a drab military colors. In 1947, after returning to civilian passenger service, it was repainted in the black hull scheme. It retained those colors until the later 1950s when it was redone in a new color scheme (gray - silver). The frame style suggests that this print was created and framed nearer the early date. Photographic posters and similiar advertising elements typically made views like the image here obsolete.
