Sepia-tone photo of members of the Active [Boat Club] posed outside their club house, no place (probably Hoboken), no date, circa 1890-1900. Circa 7-1/2" x 9-3/8" wide print on 8" x 10" photographer's mount. Photograph taken by Hill Brothers, West 14th Street, New York, N.Y. Reverse is blank except for penciled notation: #16.
The 14 men of which nine are in rowing uniforms with an "A" on the chest are formally posed in front of the their wood building on the Hudson River shore with the club name, "Active, " above the door. Four are dressed in a suit uniform with the one at the left having "Active" on his cap. None of the people are identified.
Photographer's imprint is long the lower edge of the mount and is only partially legible due to damage from previous tape or attachment.
