Photograph
Sepia-tone photo of members of the Active Boat Club on a boat at a Hoboken dock, no date, circa 1900-1910.
Digital file only. Original print 3-1/8" x 4-1/8"; reverse blank. Photographer not indicated. People are not identified. Tiffs media archive.
The view is north of a boat near the floating clubhouse on the Hudson River of the Active Boat Club. This clubhouse was accessed by a dock that was between Fourth and Fifth Streets The building in the right background is Holland America Lines Fifth Street Pier. In the far background on the hill are homes that were on River Street (as it extended north of Hudson Square Park) and were part of the Stevens Institute of Technology; they were homes of officers or faculty at that time.
Of the men seen, two are in the pilot house and four are seated on the bow. One is likely to be Jacob J. Kirchner, grandfather of donor Diane Michel Brancato (see other photos in this accession) and who was a member of the club. He is probably the man second from left of the seated group.
