B+W photo of Washington St. parade, 600 block, Hoboken, n.d., ca. late 1950s - early 1960s
Photograph
Black-and-white photo of parade on Washington Street, 600 block, Hoboken, no date, circa late 1950s - early 1960s. Circa 3-1/2" wide (trimmed margin at left) x 5" high print. Photographer not indicated. Reverse blank except for penciled notation: "STA." People are not identified.
View is northeast with a Boy Scout flagbearer (probably the troop from St. Matthew's Church - flag partial lettering "HEW'S") marching north on Washington. In the background is the Public Service Electric office at 615 Washington St. The parking lot to the left of it is the parking lot for the Union Club (part of its sign on parking lot booth is visible) which was once the site of the U.S. Theatre.
This is not the 1955 centennial parade. The trees suggest it was either the Memorial Day or Veterans Day Parade; the former seems more likely as several parade watchers are in short sleeve clothing. The cars parked in the lot suggests it was from from the later part of the date range.
