Photograph
Digital image of black-and-white photo of Hoboken Land & Improvement Co. building, old Post Office & Steneck Building, Hoboken, no date, circa 1920s.
Original: 8" x 10" print. Photograph by Brown Brothers, 1462 Broadway, N.Y. as stamped on reverse. Also ink stamped: Stevens Institute of Technology, Office of the President. Source: S.C. Williams Library, Stevens Institute of Techology. Tiffs media archive.
View is northeast from west side of River Street (probably taken from near the corner of River St. and Hudson Place) to the H.L.& I. Co. building which is 1 Newark St. Beyond it is the old Post Office at 89 River St. and the Steneck Building (also location of Steneck Trust Co.) at 95 River St.
Note electrified sign with company name on Hoboken Land & Improvement Co. building; also note the narrow eaves.
Note the electric traffic signal on a center island (near left edge) at River and Newark Streets. The character of this element suggests the image is from later in the 1920s or possibly up to 1931 (old post office seen was demolished circa 1931-1932.)
At the right is the edge of the building best known as 77 River St. (Second National Bank.)
