Album: Guastaferro. Paternal Lineage. San Guiseppi Vesuvius, Italy to New Jersey, Florida, Virginia & California, U.S.A. 1896-2010. (Published by Gus [Angelo] Guastaferro, [Williamsburg, VA, April 2010] through Picaboo for family.) Oblong 4to hardcover book, black leather(?), 4-1/2" square die-cut window in front board. Ten leaves printed in color, unpaginated [19 pp.]
A family genealogy and tribute book issued by Guastaferro for his grandchildren. The Guastaferro family emigrated to America from Italy in 1906 and settled in Hoboken. Angelo and Carmela Guastaferro's son, Carlos (father of book creator Gus Guastaferro), founded Carlo's Pastry Shop in Hoboken in 1914(or possibly 1916?) The first five pages relate to the family that was in Hoboken and are the only pages imaged. See notes.
Photograph on page [5], (undated; date stated by Gus ca. 1925 by donor) but apparently very early, of the exterior of Carlo's Pastry Shop at 412 Adams St., Hoboken. Text on page (written by Gus Guastaferro to his grandchildren and thus the great-children of Carlo):
"Great Grandfather Carlo Guastaferro at the age of 18 years started his own bakery [cataloger's note: born 1896, so founding date would have been 1914] by hiring an experienced Italian pastry Chef. Carlo hired the Chef to bake as well as teach him the trade. Right after he bought the bakery Carlo was drafted [cataloger's note: first draft was July 1917] to serve in the U.S. Army. Carlo brought his father, Angelo and his brother Charlie in the business to run it while he was stationed at Fort Eustis Army Base in Virginia. This picture shows the baker, Gabean Napilatino with my father, Carlo and his father, Angelo, and brother Charlie. Hoboken, NJ."
