Claw hammer formerly belonging to Manfred Bass of the Macy's Parade Studio, Hoboken, N.J. Signed by Bass.
Bass worked at the Studio for 40 years until retiring in 2000. He was the head designer for most of those years.
Stanley brand hammer, metal head with steel shaft encased with a rubberized textured grip and amber acrylic covered shaft. Acrylic is signed in black marker "Manfred G.Bass" and other side has "Macy's Studio" engraved on it.
The hammer can be seen in use by Bass in photographs taken of him in his last set of work clothes at the studio. He signed and donated the hammer (removed from his personal set of coveralls on display) for a raffle held during a lecture given by him at the Museum on Dec. 9, 2001 in conjunction with the Museum exhibit, "Macy's Parade Studio." The donor who won the raffle and then donated the item to the Museum.
