Color sound film transferred to DVD circa May 2005, MPEG-2 format as video objects. Running time: 16:34. Three copies.
The work is untitled other than "Hoboken!" with children shouting "Hoboken" in unison near the beginning of the film. It uses still images of historical and modern scenes and documents along with film shot in 1975 and 1976 including the dedication ceremony on Oct. 28, 1976 when the restored clock was re-started. Narrated by a number of people who are not identified with commentary about Hoboken life, the history, the process of preservation and the conversion of the former factory to housing. There are a number of views of the factory inside and out before the partial demolition went forward and rehabilitation began as well as the finished building.
An original copy of the 16 mm film is catalog 2006.051.0001, a gift of Richard McPhee, who produced the film (as contract work) for PSE&G. Description as found on his film can: A short public service film about the history of Hoboken prepared by PSE&G in the early to mid-70's to celebrate the conversion of the Keuffel & Esser Building (The Clock Tower Building) into family housing.
The copy here was a transfer to digital format from a film copy owned by Michael Coleman of Hoboken.
