Original album, owners or subjects in the photo are unknown. Sepia tone photo image, albumen print; overall circa 3-3/4" high x 2-1/2" wide. Man and woman, middle aged, posed in studio. Back has printed label at center with text in four lines: C.F. May, Photographer, 140 Washington St., Hoboken, N.J. Charles F. May operated a studio in Hoboken from 1864 to 1873 when it was sold to Charles de Lapotterie. See Lapotterie entry. The address of 140 Washington Street became modern 316 Washington in 1892.
