Sepia-tone photo of women & children seated in carriage with horse; house under construction, Hoboken?, n.d., ca. 1905-1910.
Photograph
Sepia-tone photo of women & children seated in a carriage with horse; house under construction in lot behind them, Hoboken?, no date, circa 1905-1910.
Print, 3-5/8" wide x 4-1/2" high. Photographer unknown. Reverse is blank. People are not identified.
The two women, one holding a baby, plus three young girls appearing ages 2-5 years old are seen in a buggy that is in a lot next to the house under construction (note fence). The clapboard house has scaffolding at the front and rear. Location is unknown, but the building style is typical of some Hoboken homes of the era. This single building in an apparent open space could indicate that this was in the northwest corner of the city. Development in these former marshlands was underway at the beginning of the 20th century, but there were areas that were not fully built on and single wood frame house was not unknown in the area.
