Sepia-tone photo of group of men posed outdoors on grass with fence & building behind, Hoboken?, n.d., ca. 1905-1910.
Photograph
Sepia-tone photo of group of men posed outdoors on grass with fence and building behind, Hoboken?, no date, circa 1905-1910.
Print, 3-5/8" wide x 4-1/2" high. Photographer unknown. Reverse is blank. People are not identified.
Location is unknown, but quite probably on the campus of Stevens Institute of Technology or nearby as suggested by the topography. All but three of the seated men are in white clothing, some with aprons. The standing men are in dark suits. The range of ages and appearances suggest college students plus a few school staff or faculty members. In the front row center, the man is holding a small pail which shows some drips on the side.
It appears to be a photo to commemorate some event: class field work, completion of a workshop or laboratory project? A group photo similar to this often suggests a sports team, but there is no evidence of this in the image.
