Sepia-tone photo of group posed on street with dog & fire engine pumper, Hoboken, n.d., ca. 1905-1915.
Photograph
Sepia-tone photo of group posed on street with dog and fire engine pumper, Hoboken, no date, circa 1905-1910.
Print, 3-9/16" wide x 4-5/8" high. Photographer unknown. Reverse is blank. People are not identified.
Location is unknown (see below for suggested location.) A large number of men and boys have gathered and it is presumed for some ceremony. The large dog is at center with a number of men in suits; none are seen in fire uniforms. The very bright boiler stack and bell on a fire engine pumper is seen behind this group; note the buggy whip (no horses are present; this unit is presumably before a motorized pumper became part of the fire department.)
At the left in the far background appears to be a section of the elevated trolley car trestle of the North Hudson County Railway Co. (Public Service Street) system which was on Ferry Street (Observer Highway and rose on an incline to Jersey City Heights. The apparent height of this trestle suggests the location of this photo was on Jackson Street near Paterson St.

Notes: This photograph is one of 13 different images from the donor whose source stated they were found as a group. They are catalogued 2010.007.0120 to .0128. The first record is definite as to date, 1905, and the other have estimated dates. Similarities in paper, print size, etc., do tend to establish that they are Hoboken scenes.
