Demarest was the Superintendent of Public Instruction, Hoboken, N.J. The reader is for Grade 3 and is based on a system developed by the authors from other methods. They call theirs on the title page "Synthetic and Phonic Word Method." Originally published in 1900 and a new edition issued in ca. 1918. This copy has signatures on the endleaf and are likely from 1923 to 1928 (see dated signatures in 2002.222.0010 and 2002.222.0013.)
