Booklet: Baker's Coconut Recipes. Copyright 1920 The Franklin Baker Co., Philadelphia and New York. Printed pamphlet, 3-1/2" x 6" high, 13 pp plus covers. Color covers and illustrations.
While not created by Franklin Baker in Hoboken, it is held as an example of how the company marketed its product prior to coming to Hoboken in 1924. It is useful to see the establishment of standard recipes for using coconut.
At the bottom of page [1], the company location is given as Philadelphia and New York with the additional text: Note - Over 35,000,000 Coconuts are opened annually in our Brooklyn Sunshine Factory - the largest industry of its kind in the world.
The primary promotion is for 'Fresh Grated Coconut in Pure Coconut Milk' which was canned. The brochure states it is superior to dessicated or "old fashion dry coconut, which we still sell in paper cartons." Recipes are for the canned version. It is not labeled as "Southern Style" at this time. The can label depicted is blue. By 1922, there were yellow and blue labels for different types.
See archives 2011.005.0003 for a 1922 version with two types of canned coconut offered.
