I followed the same procedure identified in the research for the Sweets Company of America. I again had little success finding the companies in the microfilmed indexes. The exception was an entry for the Wilson Line. However, when I ordered the microfilm volumes for this folder, the staff lost the microfilm between the textual stacks (where they were stored) and the Microfilm Reading Room. I have been assured that the records were found once and should be available. To date, I did not have time to pursue this search. I began going through A1 Entry 155 Formal and Informal Unfair Labor Practices and Representation Case Files for the 16 new companies listed in your email, plus Todd Dry Dock. Although this is a straightforward process for 1936-1946 when the files were arranged by year, and thereafter chronologically, the magnitude of ordering the boxes within Archives pull time and box limit constraints (combined with time for photocopying), proved too much for me to complete by your original deadline of January 7. I stand ready to complete these searches at your direction and apologize for not being able to get through all the materials. As you will see from the research findings, there was sometimes more than one folder with the same case number; some materials in these were duplicates but some were not. I tried going backwards, beginning with 1946 to see if I could speed up the process but found this made little difference. I have included the inclusive company names for the individual boxes so that you can search for any other companies that might be of interest and can assume that there are no folders for that company in the specific box as I searched for other Hoboken companies in all ordered boxes. I have kept the materials in the order in which they appeared in the folder; for the most part this means folders are in reverse chronological order. Please note that the Bethlehem Steel and Todd Dry Dock materials often contain information on both the New York and Hoboken yards. Apparently their cases were investigated and pursued both individually and together. To date, I have located files on the following companies: 1935-37 Case No. II-R-49 Davis, (R.B.) Baking Powder, Hoboken, New Jersey Case No. II-C-320 R. Neumann & Co., Hoboken, N.J. 1938-39 Case No. 1 l-C-2406 R. Neumann & Co., Hoboken, N.J. Case No. 11 -C-2532 R. Thus far these microfilm reels have gone missing, although I have received assurances that they were picked up from the stacks for delivery to the Microfilm Reading Room. I did not have the chance to verify this. Formal and Informal Unfair Labor Practices and Representation Case Files After the success of finding the Sweets Company of America, I researched your new companies of interest in these files for 1938-1946. These files are arranged chronologically and thereunder alphabetically. I ordered the companies of interest by year, with the hope that there would be a file in the appropriate file range. You will notice that there is a declassification sticker on some of the photocopies. This was not necessary in the true sense of declassification (such as a State Department document becoming declassified); however, whenever a document has the word "Secret," it is recommended that the researcher obtain a declass sticker so as not to raise the potential of any problems with the guards on exiting. In this entry group, there were "secret ballots" for union elections. 1935-1937 Formal and Informal Unfair Labor Practices and Representation Case Files Al-Entrv 155 Formal and Informal Unfair Labor Practices and Representation Case Files. 1938-48 Box 14,1935-37, American Insulated Wire Co. thru American Oil Company Current Location: NA2, RG25, Stack Area 530, Row 37, Compartment 35, Shelf 1 —no folder for American Lead Pencil —no other Hoboken companies in this box Al-Entrv 155 Formal and Informal Unfair Labor Practices and Representation Case Files. 1938-48 Box 46,1935-37, Bethlehem Shipbuilding thru Big Four Advertising Current Location: NA2, RG25, Stack Area 530, Row 37, Compartment 36, Shelf 1 —no folder for Bethlehem Steel Shipyard —no other Hoboken companies in this box Al-Entrv 155 Formal and Informal Unfair Labor Practices and Representation Case Files. 1938-48 Box 104,1935-37, Dahahy Packing Co.
