Notes: IMMEDIATE RELEASE Craftsmen of Bethlehem Steel's Hoboken, N. J., ship repair yard rebuilding the rudder for the 28,000-dwt tanker, S. S. EAGLE COURIER. All but the upper section of the rudder was lost in a North Atlantic storm. Prospects were that the vessel would be laid up from 40 to 60 days because a new lower rudder casting would require six weeks to manufacture. The Bethlehem yard cut the projected lay-up time by more than half by manufacturing a substitute welded-steel section for the lower casting in a unique process approved by the American Bureau of Shipping and the U.S. Coast Guard. Only 20 calendar days were required for the repair job. # From: Max L.
