Archive
Correspondence between the Hoboken YMCA and the U.S. Post Office regarding attempts to obtain Second Class mailing rates for its newsletter, Community "Y" News, from Dec. 10, 1946 to August 6, 1947. Several copies of the application form including one registered at the Hoboken Post Office December 10, 1947.
Some of the letters are carbon attachments, others original. Several are from the Hoboken Postmaster and others from Washington, D.C. Apparently the Post Office did not consider the publication eligible as the YMCA was not a "benevolent society" and the publication and its contents did not fit the rules.
The December application has useful information about the Hoboken Y such as it had 1161 members, the newsletter print run was 1500 copies, with 300 sent to "bona fide subscribers" besides members; printed at 111 Newark St., Hoboken.
