V.J. Day was "Victory over Japan." The copy here is from Joan (Smith) Cunning of Hoboken who made these identifications in June 2011 (a modern digital print is imaged for this record with her identifications appearing in the hand of Holly Metz; although marked 2001.049.0001 it is not a print of that photo):
