Archive
Book jacket with printed spine title for: The Life of Mary Baker Eddy. Sibyl Wilbur. Brown kraft paper, 19-3/4" wide, top and bottom folded in irregularly, 8-1/2" to 9" high. Penciled above printing: #1
While called a book jacket, the plainess of it makes it more appropriately a dust jacket or dust wrapper.
This bookjacket found at the former The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Hoboken at 829 Bloomfield St.(This was a branch church of the Mother Church and was formally incorporated in 1912.) It would have been for a Reading Room copy, octavo volume about 1-3/4" thick.
Title was first published in 1913, but many printings have followed. Style of jacket is not untypical for the period.
The Hoboken church had a public Reading Room for many decades as an important part of the church's activities.
