Titled: City of Hoboken 9/11 Memorial
Credit below: Prepared for City of Hoboken by 9/11 Memorial Committee with assistance from Remington, Vernick & Arrango.
Plan has two color architects' renderings of the memorial and three plans. Text right about the project and a listing of the victims of 9/11 to be memorialized.
This piece of street furniture is located just north of the park's center walkway and east of the Annette Illing Memorial Garden. The signboard itself has a printed panel prepared by the architects / designers for the memorial. While not dated, this is apparently the final design (announcement by City of Hoboken; see below) and panel was placed in the unit circa late August or early September 2011.
The signboard itself is not new and has been in place for several years with previous panels.
Per Hudson Reporter online article, September 9, 2011:
HOBOKEN - The city has finalized the conceptual design for the permanent Sept. 11 Memorial in Pier A Park.
The memorial has been the point of many discussions over the years. The city up until recently had a temporary memorial in Pier A Park, but it was destroyed in May by natural elements.
The discussions for the permanent memorial have included the idea of an island memorial being built off Pier A Park. However, the multimillion dollar price tag was determined to be too high, so the committee and the city has worked on a new design, with a memorial nestled in the trees of the downtown park.
A temporary sign is being installed near the location of the future memorial that includes a rendering of the project and a description, according to a city release.
The main feature of the memorial will be glass panels - one representing each of the victims from Hoboken who perished in the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center, according to a release. The edge of each glass panel will bear the name of one of the victims.
Hoboken lost 57 residents on Sept. 11, the most of any ZIP code in the United States.
An interfaith service will take place on Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. in Pier A Park.
