DescriptionExterior wall sign, painted, for United Decorating Company, Hoboken, no date, ca. 1960-80. 57-3/4" wide x 96-1/4" high x 7/8" thick. Paint on sheet metal with rear wood framing. Metal angle edging, 1" wide face x 3/4" deep. Installed over the left (north) entrance of 421 Washington Street until Spring of 2003. All lettering is hand-painted in a typical bold sans-serif poster lettering style. Lettered across the top and down the left side is the word "UNITED" in 9-1/2" high white letters. Below the word on the left: Est. [arrow pointing down at a 60" angle to the right] 1899. Most of the sign to the center and right is a list of what they offered in black lettering, varying in height from 11" to 5" in height. From the top, below UNITED: Costumes [bar] Masks [dot] Wigs Make-Up & Accessories [bar] Flags [dot] Poles Banners Pennants Weathered and faded colors. The black lettering is in very good condition.
