Color photo of the Washington Street bus at Hudson Place bus stop, Hoboken, (1927.)
Photograph
Color photo of the Washington Street bus at Hudson Place bus stop, Hoboken, no date, (1972).
3-1/8" x 5-1/8" wide print . Photographer not indicated. Reverse is blank except for handwritten number "98".
View is west (southwest) of the south side of Hudson Place between Hudson and River Streets.
Date is based on a dated mount for a known slide transparency showing this bus in same parked location but from a different vantage point.
The bus, destination sign reads "Washington St.", was primary local transportation along Washington Street for many years. Not fully legible is the operating company name which is seen on the side a few feet behind the front wheel: Agresta Bus Co.
Large building is a PATH maintenance building; parking next to it; fence at sidewalk. At right edge is the German Seamen's Institute at 64 Hudson Street. It was demolished in the very early 1970s. To the left of that building is largely open space that became (and as of catalog date, remains) a large parking lot bounded by Hudson St., Observer Highway and Washington Street.
Note streetcar tracks still present on Hudson Place.
Out-of-view to the right was a large newstand and to the west of that, a PATH entrance.
