Photograph
Cabinet photograph of a young man posed in photographer's studio, Hoboken, November 8, 1892.
4-1/4" wide x 6-7/16" high mount. Photograph taken by C.[Conrad] Magnus, 520 Washington St., Hoboken 204 (imprinted in lower margin and on reverse; see below for importance of the number 204). Besides the imprint on the reverse, it is dated in contemporary holographic ink: Taken Nov. 8th 1892. The man is not identified.
This photograph is important as documentary evidence of how a business noted a change of the Hoboken street numbering system in 1892. The mount has street numbers for Conrad Magnus' studio that includes the modern one, 520, and the old one (although not stated as such), 204, imprinted on both sides where the street address appears.
Mount front is gilt stamped with rule border plus logo and address. Back is printed in sepia, text below.
