The floating shack or shed seen to the left of center was a location used by the motion picture "On the Waterfront" when it filmed in Hoboken in 1952-1953 as the office of the union boss, Johnny Friendly, played by actor Lee J. Cobb.
The S.S. Ryndam (2) was a passenger ship (ocean liner) that routinely docked at the Fifth Street Pier from 1951 until 1963 when Holland America move to the piers on the west side of Manhattan.
