Merger Protection Agreement. Agreement Between the Erie Lackawanna Railroad Company and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. Effective April 1, 1968. G.W. Roberts, General Chairman, Erie Lackawanna System - Western District.
Booklet, 4-1/8" x 5-1/2" high, 28 pp. plus covers.
While not covering Hoboken where the Erie Lackawanna had its eastern terminal, it is relevant because an agreement somewhat similar to this one would have been necessary for the east region. A significant year for the Railroad as it was the merger (or sale of assets) of the EL Railroad into the Erie Lackawanna Railway due to its poor financial condition. Some of the affected employees were from the Norfolk and Western Railway plus others mentioned in the text.
The number of unions involved as stakeholders is extensive and demonstrates the complexities of railroad operations and employee affiliations.
