Washington's Carriage
This venerable relic of a glorious epoch of the American history was owned and used by Washington during his presidency, while he resided in Philadelphia, Washington presented it to a Miss Powell, a noted patriotic lady of Philadelphia; at her death it fell to Col. John Hare Powell, of Philadelphia, and he presented it to the present owner, Wm. Dunlap, Esq., (prominent coach-builder) Philadelphia, Pa. This Carriage was borrowed by Star Council No. 49, of Hoboken, N. J., and used in the Grand Parade of the Order of United American Mechanics, in [New] York City on Washington's Birthday, February 22nd, 1872.
