Photograph
Black-and-white photo of view north up River Street from Newark St., Hoboken, no date, circa 1965-1969.
3-1/4" x 4-3/4" wide print. Photograph taken by donor Jack O'Brien (but not so marked.) Reverse has modern ink notations by O'Brien as noted below.
View is north from near the Hoboken Land & Improvement Company building (1 Newark Street). Note the "Dead End" sign on Newark Street at right foreground.
At the right is the west facade of the Main Post Office (89 River St.) and beyond it at 95 River St., the Steneck Building, which has a large sign for Hudson County National Bank.
The view up River Street still shows the old buildings (bars, hotels, etc.) that would soon be demolished for municipal parking garages. At the left at the northwest corner of First and River Streets is A B Garage, Parking (sign; it was 36 First St.) with its old building seen with an open parking lot beyond it (both on the site of what is now 5 Marineview Plaza).
O'Brien notes on the back: Hoboken Main Post office, River St. & Nwk

This photo is in a group of 23 in this accession which are the same size prints and apparently taken during the same period; none are dated, but automobile models and other elements seen in some images suggest the date range.
