4" x 5" wide prints. Photographer not indicated. Reverse of both have inkstamped date: Sep 29 1947. Both have holographic ink description by the photographer as recorded below.
Photo 1: view is east of the north end of the P.R.R. property with rail lines to lighterage dock; several freight cars are present; smoke from the fire at Pier 57 (15th Street)
Photo 2: view is the same but taken from vantage point closer to the river (note the same derrick mounted on a barge seen in both views)
Reverse of both carried the same marking except for photo 1 is 38-9 and photo 2 is 38-8 plus:

Pier 57 was a United States Lines Pier at 15th Street on the west side of Manhattan. This fire can also be seen in a related photo, 2013.001.0015, taken aboard a Christopher Street ferry on the same day.
Both photos serve as examples of the vistas available to Hoboken residents of that era.
