Letterhead: R. B. Davis Sales Co., Distributor for R.B. Davis Company. Cleveland, Ohio, Nov. 7, 1933. Single leaf printed paper with typewritten text; 8-1/2" x 11" high.
Address of regional office imprinted in red: 921 B. of L.E. Building, Cleveland, Ohio.
While the letter was not sent from Hoboken, the stationery was apparently the standard one created by the Hoboken company and imprinted for regional offices. It features an artist's bird's-eye view of the Hoboken factory of R.B. Davis with location stated: Jackson, Ferry and Harrison Streets. The main building is depicted with a rooftop sign: Davis Baking Powder, Absolutely Pure, Cocomalt. The vignette is an updated, modern view of one long used by the company. It no longer has horse drawn wagons; only motorized trucks and automobiles are seen along with an electric streetcar or trolley; freight cars are at loading docks and a freight train is seen leaving the factory siding at the right.
Imprinted below engraving is:
R. B. Davis Sales Co., Distributor for R.B. Davis Company. Manufacturers of Davis Baking Powder, Davis Dry Yeast Baking Powder and Cocomalt.
The letter was sent by an A.J. Newman, Division Sales Manager, to the Columbus Retail Grocers' Association in Columbus, Ohio, about declining an invitation to participate the Columbus Food Fair, "We regret that we are not in a position to partake in any food shows this year."
The content suggests the extent that the Great Depression had on sales materially affected the the company and promotional budgets to the level that it could not take part in this regional event.
Useful for noting the official status of the "Sales Co." name which is known to have been used on Cut-Rite Waxed Paper promotional material.
Comment recieved via the web oin July 2019 from Marti Flacks, that Alexander John Newman was their great-grandfather who worked for RB Davis Sales Co in the 1920s and 30s.
