The largest cabin ship in the world is the S.S. "America" of the United States Lines. The vessel is next to the George Washington in size for the ships operating under the American flag, having an over-all length of 687 ft., a breadth of 74 ft. 3 ins., a depth of 54 ft., and a gross registered tonnage of 21,145. Accommodation for 693 cabin and 1,242 steerage passengers. The "America" operates between New York and Bremen, touching Plymouth and Cherbourg en route, and returning by way of Southampton and Cherbourg.
