Whether it was a bereavement courtesy or standard railroad policy to offer such travel to a family member is not indicated. It is not signed by White (who should not be confused with William H. The D.L.& W. had its headquarters in New York, where this item was issued, but Hoboken was the eastern terminus of passenger rail operations. The train connecting Elmira and Buffalo have originated or ended in Hoboken.
