FARES—(a) Except where otherwise noted, fares to destinations shown in this tariff may be used for both selling and basing purposes. Fares designated as basing fares must not be used for any other purpose. (b) FARES IN COACHES.—For passengers traveling in coaches, fares shown herein will apply. (c) FARES IN STANDARD SLEEPING CARS, PARLOR CARS AND TOURIST SLEEPING CARS.—From passengers occupying sleeping or seat accommodations in standard sleeping or tourist cars or seats in parlor cars, agents or conductors will collect the additional passage fares named in Local and Joint Tariff No. 1 of Fares for Passengers Traveling in Standard Sleeping Cais, Parlor Cars, and Tourist Sleeping Cars, C. L. Hunter's I. C. C. No. A-95, P. U. C.-N. J. No. 1, supplements thereto or subsequent issues thereof, for the accommodations occupied, subject to the rules and regulations therein contained. 2. BASES FOR THROUGH FARES AND STATIONS FROM WHICH FARES APPLY—See pages 6 and 7 of this tariff. 3. CHILDREN—5 years of age and under 12 will be charged one-half of the adult fare; 12 years of age and over will be charged the adult fare. Children under 5 years of age, when accompanied by parent or guardian, will be transported free of charge. In computing half fare for children the exact amount of the computation will be charged, except that when the amount ends in a fraction of a cent, the fraction will be counted in all cases as one cent. Tickets sold for the transportation of children 5 years of age and under 12 must be reduced to half tickets by stamping or writing in ink the word HALF, or by cutting with punch the figure J in contract and each coupon. 4. FARES TO DESTINATIONS NOT SHOWN IN THIS TARIFF will be made by adding the fares shown in this tariff to the fares shown in other tariffs lawfully on file with the Interstate Commerce Commission, provided that if the fare so made exceeds the fare to a point beyond on the same through line as shown in this tariff, the latter fare will apply. Fares so made will apply via all routes authorized under this tariff to contiguous points of destination. 6. DATES OF SALE—-Tickets will be on sale daily to all destinations shown in this Tariff, except that fares via steamer lines named below will be in effect only between and including the dates shown, unless sooner canceled, changed or extended. For explanation of effective dates, see Rule 14. C. R. R. of N. J. Steamers (Sandy Hook Route)................................May 15 to September 15. New England S. S. (New Bedford Line).......................................July 1 to September 1. Purchasers of tickets should remember that many of the steamer lines cease operation or make irregular trips during the latter part of the season, and they should therefore consult schedules of the steamer lines over which their tickets read. 6 TIME LIMITS—On one-way tickets time limits shown herein include date of sale and apply from stations between and including Washington, N. J., Newark, N. J., and Passaic, N. J., including branches (shown in I. C. C. No. 1225, supplements thereto or reissues thereof). Agents west of Washington, N. J. (shown in I. C. C. Nos. 1225, 1226, 1227 and 1228, supplements thereto or reissues thereof), will add one day to limits shown herein. 7. BAGGAGE—Baggage Rules and Regulations and Excess Baggage Rates shown in Local, Inter-Division and Joint Tariff L-4,1. C. C. No. 1204, supplements thereto or reissues thereof, will apply, and on the return trip from points on lines participating in this tariff as shown in excess baggage tariffs of such lines as lawfully on file with the Interstate Commerce Commission and posted at such points. 8. EXTENSION OF LIMITS OF TICKETS AND STOP-OVERS ACCOUNT ILLNESS, WASHOUTS AND OTHER EMERGENCIES—-Passengers who purchase transportation under this tariff and are prevented from using the same within the limit thereof as specified herein by reason of illness, when such illness makes travel dangerous, quarantine, washout, wreck, or other obstruction of track, public calamity, the act of God or of the public enemy, will be allowed an extension of time or stop-over privilege in accordance with the regulations contained in the tariffs of the carriers over whose lines the tickets read as lawfully on file with the Interstate Commerce Commission. 9. EXCHANGE OF TICKETS AT GRAND CENTRAL STATION FOR CERTAIN TRAINS VIA N. Y. N. H. & H.—In selling tickets for passage from New York on the Knickerbocker Limited Train over the N. Y. N. H. & H. leaving Grand Central Station at 1.00 P. M., or the Merchants Limited leaving at 5.00 P. M., passenger should be advised that ticket must be exchanged for a special form of ticket at Grand Central Station by the Ticket Agent of the N. Y. N. H. & H. who will collect at the same time $3.15 additional for the privilege of passage on these trains, which also includes a parlor car seat. 10. STOP-OVERS—No stop-overs will be allowed. 11. CORPSES—Rules and Regulations shown in Local, Inter-Division and Joint Baggage Tariff L-4,. I. C. C. No. 1204, supplements thereto or reissues thereof, will apply. 12. CHINESE—-Tickets must not be sold to Chinese to or through the Dominion of Canada, except to properly accredited and identified diplomatic officers of the Chinese government traveling upon the business of that government, and their secretaries or body or household servants accompanying them. Chinese not holding papers as required above must be ticketed only to the first United States frontier point en route and requested to make their own arrangements beyond. OPTIONAL ROUTES—Except as otherwise specifically provided herein, holders of tickets sold under this tariff will have the privilege of traveling via such optional routes as may be authorized in the tariffs of the carriers parties hereto as lawfully on file with the Interstate Commerce Commission. (a) Tickets reading between New York, N. Y., or Newark, N. J., and stations on the N. Y. & L. B. (South Amboy to Point Pleasant, N. J„ inclusive) will be valid for passage on trains of either the C. of N. J. or P. R. R., and New York, N. Y., to stations Branchport to Point Pleasant, N. J., inclusive, they will also be valid on steamers of the Sandy Hook Route of the C. of N. J. during season of navigation. (See Rule 5.) (b) Tickets reading between New York, N. Y., and stations on the Trenton Division of the P. R. R. from Bay Head to Toms River, N. J., inclusive, will be valid for passage on trains of either the P. R. R. or C. of N. J. between New York, N. Y., and Point Pleasant, N. J., inclusive, or on steamers of the Sandy Hook Route of the C. of N. J. during season of navigation. (See Rule 5.) (c) Tickets described in paragraphs (a) and (b) (except to Island Heights, Seaside Park and Toms River, N. J.) will not be valid for passage on P. R. R. trains from Pennsylvania Station (7th Ave. and 32nd St.), New York, N. Y., except in connection with Pennsylvania Terminal Ticket, which may be purchased at Pennsylvania Station at a charge of twelve (12) cents. 14. EFFECTIVE DATES—The dates shown in Rule 5 are inclusive, and cover an effective period as shown below, unless sooner canceled, changed or extended. May 15 To September 15—June 10, 1918, to September 15, 1918; May 15, 1919 to September 15, 1919, and between latter dates in each year thereafter. July 1 To September 1—July 1, 1918, to September 1, 1918, and between same dates in each year thereafter.
