Notes: Text on reverse: 352G - 16762. Geography Unit No. 15. AT THE DOCKS, HOBOKEN, N. J. We are now on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River, looking up the river. The largest piers on the Hudson are on the Jersey side, and here we see the big ocean liners and the freighters. These ships bring passengers and cargoes from all parts of the world. Thousands of men work at these docks — loading and unloading goods, bringing supplies, cleaning the ships, and preparing them for their voyages. Examine a map of New York and vicinity. What reason for a greater number of docks and larger docks on the Jersey side of the Hudson than on the New York side does the map suggest As we look at New York, Hoboken, and other cities near by, and notice the millions of people working, we wonder where they live. Some live in the apartment district of New York. Many thousands live on the’East Side, near the East River, in buildings called, tenements. Then a. great many people who work in the factories, in the business houses, and on the docks live in surrounding cities and towns, especially in those of New Jersey.
