Text reads: May 13, 1826, Colonel John Stevens gave a public demonstration of his steam locomotive, the first to be built in America. It traveled ove a circular track in Hoboken, New Jersey, to form the nation's first steam railroad.
The Students of Stevens Institute of Technology and the Hoboken Bicentennial Committee commemorated John Stevens' achievement 150 years later, on May 13, 1976.
