The artist's interpretation of a bird's-eye view looking southeast of Hoboken with elements seen from the mid-1800's: Elysian Fields, baseball, The Colonnades, Stevens Castle and Castle Point, the docks and piers of various passenger and shipping lines, railroad and ferry transportation. The layout is not literal with the street grid not being shown as it then existed. Although no photographs have been found showing it in its original location, it is known that it was in public passenger area then used by American Export Lines, Pier B, as its Hoboken offices and main passenger terminal. This company ceased Hoboken operations in the early 1970's when it moved them to Brooklyn.
