Validity of the return portion may be extended for an additional 12 months on payment of 10% of full round trip rate. The return portion of Round Trip Excursion Tickets issued for one steamer will be honored on any of our other steamers and any adjustment will be made on the basis of one-half the difference in round trip rates. ---- Round Trip Excursion Fares for outward and return voyages on different steamers to and from different ports are computed on basis of half the sum of the round trip fares. For example, Round Trip Excursion fare per the LEVIATHAN outward to Cherbourg and return per the GEO. WASHINGTON from Southampton will be one-half of $197.50 plus one-half of $182.50 or $190.00. "Tourist Third Class" passengers are not subjected to the medical examination given to aliens coming to this country, but it does not guarantee immunity to those passengers who have traveled through infected areas of Europe, which are classed as the countries east and south of Germany, Austria and Italy. ===== [page 3] GENERAL INFORMATION Reservations: Can be made in advance of sailing by applying to any Agent of the United States Lines. A deposit of $25 per adult (children in proportion), is required on all reservations, final payment to be made four weeks prior to sailing. If the balance is not paid within the time specified, the lines have the right to dispose of the accommodations which have been reserved. In this case, if no other purchaser for the accommodation is found, the deposit remains the property of the Lines. The receipt for deposit is not transferable. Cancellations: On reservation cancelled at least four weeks prior to sailing after deposit receipt, passage order or ticket has been issued, refund will be made in full. If cancellation is made later than four weeks prior to sailing accommodations will be placed on sale for account of passenger, and if resold, reimbursement will be made of the amount paid less expenses incurred. Baggage: Personal effects carried by these Lines as baggage, consists of wearing apparel, toilet articles, effects in actual use, and necessary and appropriate for the wear, use, comfort and convenience of passenger on the journey, and not intended for any other purpose. Such articles must be enclosed in receptacles sufficiently strong to withstand handling. Household effects, glassware, etc., should be forwarded as freight. No liability will be assumed for loss of or damage to same when forwarded as baggage. Dangerous articles, such as fireworks, matches, gun powder, gasoline, cartridges, moving picture films, MUST NOT be enclosed in baggage. Moving picture films are prohibited from being carried as passenger's baggage and will only be accepted for transportation by special arrangement as freight, on a Bill of Lading. Freight rates quoted on application. Baggage to be landed at Cherbourg: Baggage must be marked for final destination, registered and checked. It is advisable that this be done on the afternoon preceding day of departure, either by the passenger or his representative. Insurance, Baggage insured in office: It is recommended that passengers insure their baggage as in the event of loss or damage the Lines cannot accept liability beyond the limits specified in steamer contract ticket. Free Allowance: Each Tourist Third Cabin adult passenger is allowed fifteen cubic feet of baggage, free on our steamers. Excess is charged for at current rates. Stateroom Baggage or packages must not exceed 14" in height, 2' in width and 3' in length. Marking: Passengers should be careful to label all of their baggage with their full name, destination, name of steamer, sailing date, location. It is recommended that the name and address of passenger be marked or placed inside of each piece of baggage (trunks, boxes, traveling bags, etc.), so that in case the outer address is lost, the owner may be identified when same is opened. Tags and labels furnished on application. When baggage should be on Pier: All baggage should be on the pier at least twenty-four hours before sailing, and claimed at least two hours before departure of vessel. Failure to claim baggage may result in same being left behind at passenger's risk. Baggage carried on European Railroads: Passengers' baggage consisting of personal effects, is carried free on railroads, as follows: Great Britain ..................... 100 lbs. France, Spain and Portugal............ 66 lbs. Small charge made for transfer Baggage in Paris. No free allowance in other countries, all baggage being subject to regular baggage rates existing in those countries. It is, therefore, advisable for passengers to limit their baggage to necessary wearing apparel and toilet articles. All other effects should be forwarded as freight. MOTORCYCLES, BICYCLES, BABY CARRIAGES, SEWING MACHINES AND PERAMBULATORS Bicycles must be crated and will be carried at owner's risk, for ^hich a charge of $5 is made. Motorcycles must also be crated and will be carried at owner's risk for a charge of $25 each; cycle-sidecars, $10. Motorcycles and sidecars combined $35.00. Baby carriages when crated $5.00 each owner's risk. Gocarts (folding) free but reckoned in baggage allowance. PASSPORTS (Subject to Change) United States Citizens can obtain application blanks for passports from the Department of State, Bureau of Citizenship at Washington, D. C., from the United States Passport Bureau, New York City, The United States Lines, 45 Broadway, New York City, or other designated agents of the Department of State, such as Clerks of Federal or State Courts. Passengers landing in Germany must have their passports visaed by the German Consul, 42 Broadway, New York. Passengers disembarking at Cherbourg must have their passports visaed by the French Consul, Pier 57, North River, New York. Passengers landing in England must have their passport visaed by the British Consul, 44 Whitehall Street, New York. Passengers landing in Ireland must have their passport visaed by the Irish Consul, 1 Broadway, New York. Income Tax Receipts—All passengers except American Citizens are required to show that they have complied with the United State Income Tax Law. For this purpose they should carry with them to port of departure, income tax-receipts, cancelled checks, or certificates of compliance with the Income Tax Law issued by the Internal Revenue Collector nearest to the place of their residence. Thesie receipts or certificates must be stamped at the Office of the Collector of Internal Revenue, Custom House, Bowling Green, New Cork City, and presented to representative of the Internal Revenue Department at the pier at the time of embarking. ==== [page 4] TOURIST Third cabin offers a pleasant and satisfactory way of making the trip to Europe at very moderate cost. This economical way to go has become more popular each year and the United States Lines Ships have carried thousands of satisfied tourist passengers. Thousands of educators, artists and American business people find this an entirely pleasant and satisfactory way of realizing a far distant hope—a trip to Europe for a very moderate sum. The well ventilated and scrupulously clean staterooms accommodate two or four persons. The public rooms include large and cheerful dining rooms, well fitted smoking rooms, and a ladies lounge. There is ample deck space, both open and covered, for promenade and sports. A physical director supervises and assists in all sports, entertainments and games. The food served is plentiful, of pleasing variety, well prepared by expert chefs, and served by courteous waiters. A staff of efficient and experienced stewards and stewardesses are always on duty to serve the passengers.
