Magazine advertisement: Now the Leviathan, America's greatest and smartest ship, goes to Bremen via Plymouth and Cherbourg. United States Lines, American Merchant Lines. (1932) Half-page black-and-white ad published in National Geographic, 1932 as stated by source (issue number not known; month not indicated, but dates in text suggest April or May issue), page number not indicated. Full leaf present, 6-3/4" wide x 10" high (the ad here is on upper half), as removed from publication and as received. Hoboken was nominally its American home port as part of the company, but it actually sailed from Pier 86 (46th Street) in Manhattan (New York City) due to its size. It was retired to Hoboken in June 1933 and resumed service on June 9, 1934 for five more passages before leaving service permanently. Scrapped 1938. The ad copy also promotes two of their other ocean liners, S.S. President Harding and S.S. President Roosevelt. They offered cabine class service. Full text of ad is in notes.
