Trade or advertising card: From Lunch Counter. Del. Lac. and Western R.R. Depot, Hoboken, N.J. Louis N. LaPierre. No date, circa 1885-1900.
Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad
Color lithographed card, embossed, 3-3/16" x 5-3/16" wide; imprinted text in black at upper right as above; reverse is blank. No maker's marks. Edges irregularly trimmed apparently with scissors suggesting it was not trimmed by the printer.
A sentimental winter scene depicting a with a young girl wearing fancy fashion (including a fur muffler) accompanied by a small dog; she observes a young boy with a chair sled at the edge of the frozen pond. She apparently will be seated in the chair and he will push her around on the ice.
The date range is suggested by the history of the terminals (or depots as known in the 19th C.) built by the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad in Hoboken. All the terminals were at the same location as the current Hoboken (formerly the Lackawanna or Erie Lackwanna) Terminal is today. The current terminal is the fifth one and the fourth one which opened in 1885 was destroyed in a 1905 fire. The card is likely a promotional souvenir from the 1885-1900 years of the fourth terminal based on the artwork and fashions.
