Dating is suggested by listed dates for photographer in Saretsky (New Jersey Photographers List; http://gary.saretzky.com/photohistory/index.html).
Note on photographer's imprint: Lay was Herman N. Lay whose business was continued outside Hoboken (Bayonne) after 1895. The use of Lay's name suggests that this photo is probably from the earlier part of the date range.
Also note border and decorations printed in a light green on mount.
====
One of a group of photographs in this accession related to the Sanntrock family which lived in Hoboken from the later part of the 19th century until the early 20th century. Consisting of images of first and second generation German immigrants, the group reflects their German heritage and culture in fashions and content (some photographs are from Germany, apparently of relatives.)
