Photograph
Black-and-white inscribed photograph of Frank Sinatra on Bergenline Ave.(?), West New York, NJ., no date, circa 1940-1942.
Contemporary 3-1/4" x 4-1/2" high print. Photographer not indicated. (Accompanied by two documents re authenticity.)
Inscribed in blue ink fountain pen on front: Sincerely, Frank Sinatra.
Autographed in ink on back:
Buddy Rich
Jo Stafford
View is of a young Sinatra in foreground probably leaving shop being trailed by fans. West New York name appears on the awning to the right, but street location is unknown. None of the other people are identified.
Because of the Rich and Stafford signatures on the back and Sinatra's youthful appearance, it can be considered that this photo and inscription are from Sinatra's period with the Tommy Dorsey band. Rich was the Dorsey band drummer. Stafford was a member of the vocal group, The Pier Pipers, who provided back-up vocals for Sinatra and other featured singers until she became a featured soloist in this era.
A fan's treasured memento as indicated by the loving, but well-worn condition.
