Jacobs was an important figure in railroad tunnelling and engineering. He was also Engineer-in-Chief at the same time for the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad (now known as PATH - Port Authority Trans-Hudson) which opened its first tunnel on Feb. 28, 1908 at Hoboken.
