A Full Cup: Sir Thomas Lipton's Extraordinary Life and His Quest for the America's Cup. By Michael D'Antonio. NY: Riverhead Books / Penguin Group, 2010. First edition. 8vo hardcover; dustjacket. 354 pp., sources (bibiography and notes); index.
Lipton established his first American operations in Hoboken, but Hoboken is not present in the index. It is mentioned at least once: page 146 in regards to John Cox Stevens ("his family owned all of Hoboken") and the New York Yacht Club. (The work has not been examined for all references to Hoboken.)
The New York Yacht Club (NYYC) was founded in Hoboken and Stevens was the first leader (Commodore). He was a member of the small syndicate that commissioned and raced the yacht "America" that captured the first race where the trophy was awarded. It came to the United States and became known as the America's Cup where it resided at the clubhouse in Hoboken until the NYYC left for New York City.
Curiously, 'Lipton Tea' has but a single index entry.
