Front depicts the women's lounge; also has a small vignette view of the "Rauchsalon" as well as depiction of the vessel under steam. This Hamburg-American Line passenger ship was originally the S.S. Augusta Victoria launched in 1888. Renamed in 1896, changing from "Augusta" to "Auguste." Rebuilt in 1896-1897. Maiden voyage under new name, June 3, 1897. Note the date form on the front is "18__" making this a 19th century card; most likely from 1898-1899 rather than 1897 as it has printed on the back: "Carte postale - Union postale universelle."
