Photograph
Sepia-tone photo of what appears to be the Hoboken pier fire, ca. June 30, 1900.
4-3/4" wide by 6-3/4" high, irregularly trimmed and mounted on board that appears to also have been trimmed. Photographer is unknown, but attributed to Harry A. Bremer.
The reverse is blank except for some pencil notations that do not describe the image, source. A piece of tape has removed the surface where there was name: M. Flat___.
The view is looking to the southeast from a vantage point that allowed the photographer to look down and across the roofs of buildings that were at least 4 to 5 stories high. The buildings in the foreground with people on the roof appear to on the east side of Washington St. The ships are known to have smoldered for days so that this image may have been taken sometime in early July. Pier sheds that should able to be seen if they were still standing do not appear in this photo.
