Photograph
Black-and-white photo of the Terminal Building, 68-70 Hudson St., Hoboken, 1915. Hoboken Public Library Historical Picture Collection no. 23. Black-and-white negative ca. 3" x 4", typed gummed adhesive label. The view is looking west.
HPL Catalog (2001.137.0001) citation under Buildings: Terminal Office Building, Hudson Place & Hudson St., ca. 1912. Eagan School of Business also in picture.
___
Although the catalog dates it as 1912, the typed label and a holographic date in upper left part of the image date this as 1915. A newsclipping at the upper right notes that the building was completed in 1911 shortly after the opening of the Hudson and Manhattan Tubes, it was sponsored by The Hudson Terminal Building Company. The clipping is a notice of the building's sale.
All buildings in this picture still exist. This is an early view of the Terminal Building. It would shortly have a large rooftop sign for Prudential Insurance. The Eagan School has a domed roof that has since been removed. The building to the right of the Terminal Building is what has been known as the Hotel Edwards. At the right is the corner of the building known as the Hotel Victor (corner sign not yet in place). A sign for the Hudson Cafe can be seen at that corner.
