Object/Artifact
Commemorative U.S. one dollar bill from Joseph Apicella & Sons Fish Market, 309 First St., Hoboken. No date, circa 1981-1985+. Torn and tape mended.
Found in debris in a back office at Apicella's (business closed in late 2005) in January 2008. The item is a typical memento of a first day sales receipt. The condition probably reflects that it was mounted in an area of substantial activity where it was received the wear and tear that is present. It is not marked with the dates or any other notes regarding the importance to the business. Because of the wear, the date of the Federal Reserve Note is not found, but the Secretary of the Treasury was Donald Regan who served in that post from 1981-1985. The bill would have been in circulation for some period beyond the end date of his cabinet post.
