DescriptionFluting machine, Champion brand, invented by Charles Felder, Pat. July 17, 1877. Manufactured by Rudolph Felder, Machinist, New York. Iron with brass fluting rolls; crank with turned wood handle; several small accessories. Date of manufacture not indicated, possibly 1877. Used in Hoboken by an upholstery business operated by the Ross family (Amelia Ross from that family was the wife of Dr. Junius Zenneck, who were the parents of donor Elsie Zenneck.) Black paint with gold decoration and lettering, 10" wide (13-1/2" with removable crank) x 8" deep x 7" high. Used for pleating fabrics. Accessories included are a 11" long eye pin; 4 each 1/2" diameter x 5" long metal rods (steel or iron) with ca. 3/16" diameter hole in one end (hole is not precision drilled - all are off center); a 2" c-clamp for securing the unit on a work surface. Also a from lever that has broken off (as received.) The machine received U.S. patent number 193, 113. A copy of the three page patent with its diagram is part of this record for reference.
