The fraternal organization, Knights of Honor, was founded in Kentucky in 1873, but expanded widely through the 1880s. The New Jersey Grand Lodge was organized April 16, 1877. A secret society.
Note that there was also a later society known as Knights and Ladies of Honor that split off from parent organization. "Protection" was a lodge activity with varying official designations that was apparently part of both societies.
