Object/Artifact
Political button: Our Choice for City Commissioners, (Hoboken), no date, circa 1930-1940. 1-11/16" diameter with pin. No maker's marks.
Five candidates (some or all were likely incumbents) were pictured and named. At center is Bernard N. McFeely in the largest photo with the other four around him, from top right: Michael F. Kearins, Adolph C. Carsten, Joseph A. Clark, William F. Gilfert.
Under the commission government, one of the elected commissioners served as Mayor of Hoboken. From 1930 to 1947 it was McFeely. Since he is at center and larger than the others, it suggests that this badge is from the period when he was well-established as the Mayor. The collar styles also suggests it is from from the earlier date than later. (The early date is not definitive though as McFeely had been a commissioner since 1915 when that form of government was established.)
The "Our Choice" on the button does not indicate which, if any, party or group made the slate their choice. McFeely was a Democrat.
