Mechanical coin bank from Haven Savings and Loan Association, 41 Newark Street, Hoboken, no date, ca. 1945-1955. Pressed metal and other parts; green painted body with gold lettering. 4-1/8" diameter x 1-5/8" high. Painted lettering is worn, worn top paint with more wear near top keyhole; locked bottom door is forced with damage to locking mechanism. No key present. Coin insertion mechanism and lever still work. See 2008.058.0002 for another of the same with red and maroon paint.
Bank accepts nickels and dimes and registers total to date in windows for dollars and cents in five cent increments.
Model: Add 2 Bank. Manufactured by Steel Products Corp. of California, San Francisco. Patented March 31, 1942. Patent number 2278008.
Although patented in 1942, it is unlikely with wartime restrictions on use of steel and other metals that this item was produced before the end of the war in 1945.
